Artist's Description

This sketch was done in graphite with the dark tones add with Prismacolor Verithin and Premier pencils on a 60lb smooth sketch pad.

The larger areas and textured where done using graphite sticks. I find that they will allow me to apply tone quickly with the added benefit of picking up subtle textures from the paper. Most of my designs start out with a sketch like this to formulate the basis of the character before committing too much time. Whether I then do a full fledged painting of the character or even expand the character into multiple views, I at least have the basic design that can be later expanded upon if needed ...and of course I have a sketch to post, so at least the work serves a purpose.
